About Casey Kasem
Casey Kasem was a noted radio personality, music historian, and actor, known best as the man behind American Top 40, from 1970 until his retirement in 2009.
He started out his radio career in 1952 as a disc jockey and announcer for Armed Forces Radio, while stationed in South Korea with the U.S. Army. After the war, he moved on to work for various radio stations across the United States, hosted a TV show from time to time, and did plenty of work as an actor (in movies and TV) and as a voice actor (as Shaggy on “Scooby Doo”, Robin on “Superfriends”, among others).
As the co-creator of American Top 40, Casey Kasem had set the standard for pop radio– more than just the music, it’s the mix of interesting bits and trivia, and the right emotional connection, that made him a huge success for the rest of his career.
A devout vegan, Kasem supported animal rights and environmental causes, and was a critic of factory farming. he was also active in politics for years, supporting Lebanese-American and Arab-American causes.
